The legend of Monte Perdido
Dicen que hubo un tiempo en el cual, en ese paraje, no había
ninguna montaña. Eran amplios prados en los cuales los pastores llevaban a
pastar a sus ovejas.
A long time ago there were no mountains
in this place. There were large fields where the shepherds took their sheep to
graze.
Cuenta la leyenda que uno de estos pastores estaba tranquilamente sentado jugando con su navaja a tallar en una rama de boj, cuando un hombre se le acercó.

The legend
says that one of these shepherds was calmly sitting and carving boxwood with
his knife, when a man approached him.
Se trataba de un mendigo, pobremente vestido, descalzo y con
rostro demacrado tras tantos días de ayuno.
He was a
getting dressed poorly, barefooted and hungry beggar.
He was a
hungry beggar, poorly dressed and barefoot.
Este le habló al pastor diciendo:
He said to
the shepherd:
Llevo mucho tiempo sin probar bocado. Dame algo de comer, Dios se lo pagará.
I haven’t eaten anything for a long time. Give me something to eat. God will pay it to you. God will reward you
El pastor no le hizo ni el menor caso.
The
shepherd didn’t pay any attention to him.
El mendigo siguió insistiendo, pero el pastor le respondió de
malas maneras reprochándole que él también pasaba hambre y frío.
The man
continued begging, but the shepherd rudely answered, telling him that he was
also hungry and cold.
Finalmente
el pastor se volvió a concentrar en la talla del boj. Mientras, el mendigo
seguía insistiendo en vano...
Finally the
shepherd concentrated on carving the boxwood while the beggar continued
insisting.
Cuenta la leyenda que instantes después de negarle auxilio al mendigo, el valle quedó impregnado de niebla.

The legend
continues saying that a while later, the valley was full of fog.
El pastor, amedrentado, comenzó a recoger el ganado disperso por
el prado.
The
frighten shepherd began to collect the dispersed sheep.
Pero, con aquellas nieblas, se hacía completamente imposible.
But it was
impossible because it was to much fog.
Todos estaban
irremediablemente perdidos.
Everybody was lost.
Los nubarrones tornaron en una intensa lluvia, como jamás se
había producido en los Pirineos.
The black clouds turned into heavy rain,
never seen before in the Pyrenees .
Perro, pastor y ganado se perdieron definitivamente y nunca más
se supo de ellos.
The dog, shepherd and all the sheep were lost forever and nobody ever heard anything about them again.
Los montañeses afirman que justo en donde se perdieron apareció una nueva montaña formada de piedra y hielo, la más impresionante y peligrosa de los Pirineos sin duda alguna.

hielo, como el corazón del pastor...

FINAL DE LA LEYENDA MONTE PERDIDO:
ResponderEliminarCuando el valle se cubrió de niebla el pastor comenzó a andar en busca de un refugio. Ya llevaba un rato andando y derepente vió una cabaña de madera. Decidió entrar para ver si allí se podía proteger. Se quedó ahí durante todo la noche. Al día siguiente la niebla había desaparecido. El pastor consiguió salvarse de aquel terrible temporal. Al final el pastor regresa a su casa. Y otra vez a tallar con su navaja.
